Heather Li
she/they
Hi, my name is Heather Li (she/they) and I’m the Project Manager for Righting History. I am writing this to give you context for the position from which I view the world. While I’m currently located in the UK, I grew up on the traditional lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit, part of the Anishinaabe Nation, Haudenosaunee, Huron-Wendat, and Ojibwe/Chippewa peoples. The treaties on this land include Treaty 14, or the Head of the Lake Purchase. I want to acknowledge that I am a settler in this nation and do not wish nor will I attempt to speak on behalf of Indigenous communities, instead using my privilege to amplify and understand their voices. My view of the world is coloured through the lens of a second-generation Chinese woman, who identifies as part of the LGBTQIAS+ community. However, I do not claim to know the experiences of all individuals within these communities, merely that my world-view is shaped by the experiences of people who share my profile. As someone who has the privilege of accessing university education, I wish to use my role and my ability to use my time for social justice to raise awareness and bring attention to the historical injustices people face.
